fibric acid derivatives: A type of cholesterol-lowering drug that reduces triglycerides and raises HDL cholesterol levels.

high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol: High-density lipoprotein or "good" cholesterol is considered beneficial because it removes excess cholesterol from the body and disposes of it.

heart disease: A condition in which the arteries that service the heart are narrowed by LDL-deposited plaques. When an artery is blocked and blood flow is impeded, the heart is deprived of oxygen.
